Father’s Day Race: SteelStacks Grand Prix

June 6th, 2017

Father’s Day Race

Lehigh Valley Grand Prix has teamed up with ArtsQuest to host the inaugural SteelStacks Grand Prix race!  On Sunday, June 18th, up to 30 teams will compete in three preliminary Le Mans-style races on a half-mile course designed by Lehigh Valley Grand Prix Owner, Mike McCreary. The outdoor track will be located on the grounds of the old Bethlehem Steel Mill and feature a straight away where go karts can reach up to 45 mph! The top teams from each preliminary heat will advance to the finals. The winning team will be awarded trophies created by the glass studio of the ArtsQuest Banana Factory. This is the perfect event to bring Dad to on Father’s Day! “It is exciting that we have the opportunity to host a go-kart racing event of this magnitude in the Lehigh Valley,” says McCreary, owner of Lehigh Valley Grand Prix. “SteelStacks is a great location for this event because not only does it offer an ideal layout, the opportunity to race on the former Bethlehem Steel grounds is very exciting. The track itself will be extremely unique due to the venue.”

About SteelStacks Grand Prix

The race is open to the public and free to watch! Spectators will be able to watch all of the action track-side and there will be ‘grandstands’ set up for the event. The event is family friendly and all proceeds will benefit the free summer programs offered by ArtsQuest. “We’re thrilled to partner with Lehigh Valley Grand Prix on this event,” says ArtsQuest Chief Operating Officer Curt Mosel. “It’s definitely a fun and slightly different way for our community to come together and to help raise funds to support ArtsQuest’s free programming including Musikfest, Oktoberfest and the concerts at SteelStacks.” There will be food vendors, a car show, and a Mario Kart gaming tournament among other family friendly activities.
